Liliane Daoud, the well-known host of an Egyptian talk show, was seized from her home in Cairo on Monday and deported to Lebanon, according to an account from her lawyer. Her expulsion came hours after her employer, the privately owned ONtv, terminated her contract with the station.
ONtv was purchased by a new owner, the businessman Ahmed Abu Hashima, on May 15. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the deal sparked fears of increased censorship on the channel, which has given a platform to presenters and journalists critical of Egypt’s current leadership. Ms. Daoud had hosted her show, “Al-Soura al-Kamila” (”The Full Picture”), since 2011. It was cancelled after the recent sale.
