American Nightscapes: a Small Town Portrait in Photography & Food
PhotocriticEtcCelebrated soul food joint Outsider Tart is collaborating with the British photographer Daniel Freeman to host an exclusive American themed installation at the Chiswick, London restaurant this summer.
This is Daniel Freeman’s first solo show in the UK. His month-long exhibition precedes plans to stage an exhibition of his work in the USA and a second road-trip to navigate Trump’s America.
Starting on the east coast in Boston and ending on the west in Oakland, California, Freeman deliberately avoided big cities, navigating the small towns of everyday America.
To reflect pre Trump America in a novel way, Freeman shot at night, using street, shop and moonlight to illuminate details in his nocturnal portraits.
The States featured by the collaboration include New York (upstate), Connecticut, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California (Southern).
American Nightscapes runs from 21 June to 9 July 2017 at Outsider Tart, 83 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 2EF.
