Lotus flowers at the 24-hour Flower Market.

In Buddhist iconography, the lotus is often used as a metaphor for the struggle towards enlightenment.

Lotus tend to grow in murky, muddy waters but rise through the water to reveal their colourful flowers.

The lotus blooms are often peeled back in elaborate shapes and used for decorative offerings at Buddhist shrines.

I was pleased to see that despite a big reduction in the number of traders at the Flower Market in recent years, there are still many selling these beautiful, photogenic flowers.
