Samikshya is 18 months old. She suffered second degree burns to her face, hands, neck and back when she stumbled into a pot of boiling animal feed.

Samikshya’s family have been homeless since the earthquake in 2015.

85% of families whose homes were destroyed by the earthquake are still living in temporary shelters.

Cramped living conditions, lack of safe storage and unstable cooking facilities have led to a sharp increase in the number of accidents resulting in serious or fatal burns.

BVS-Nepal (bvsnepal.org.np/) is an NGO supporting burn victims in Nepal. Beyond providing initial care and support, BVS-Nepal help burn survivors integrate back into their communities, offering expert counselling and long-term assistance.

Having spent time with their small but passionately dedicated team in Nepal this week, I’ve seen how crucial their support can be to families who often face a traumatic episode with extremely limited resources.

BVS-Nepal’s operating budget is tiny. To say that they succeed in stretching their limited resources a very long way would be an understatement.

The BVS-Nepal website (bvsnepal.org.np) has details for how you might help support their vital work.
