Canon Releases Firmware Updates for EOS R3, R5, R6, R6 II, R7, R8, R10, R50, RF 24-105mm F2.8, 35mm F1.4, EL-5, ST-E10

Canon has released a long list of firmware updates. Links are to the relevant Canon AU pages:

EOS R3 Firmware Version 1.8.0

  1. Adds Protect Images and Rating during [FTP Transfer].
  2. Adds the ability to select [Wired] as a connection option when [Airplane mode] is set to [On].
  3. The following issues have been fixed
    1. Fixes an issue, in which when Wi-Fi is disconnected, Err70 occurs.
    2. Fixes an issue, in which when shooting subjects that are smaller in the frame, the card access indicator blinks and operations can no longer be performed.
    3. Fixes an issue, in which while operating both the touch function on the LCD monitor and a customized button, and then performing shooting, operations can no longer be performed.
    4. Fixes an issue, in which when performing shooting in high-speed continuous shooting + mode with the [Highlight Tone Priority] option set to [ON], focus may not be achieved when certain ISO speed settings are used.

EOS R5 Firmware Update Version 2.1.0

  1. Enables functions to be used without limitation in conjunction with the new Battery Pack LP-E6P. This makes it possible to shoot at the same continuous shooting speed as when using LP-E6NH. In-camera charging of LP-E6P is also supported.
  2. Adds Protect Images and Rating during [FTP Transfer].

  2. The following issues have been fixed
    1. Fixes an issue, in which when shooting subjects that are smaller in the frame, the card access indicator blinks and operations can no longer be performed.

EOS R6 Mark II Firmware Version 1.5.0

  1. Enables functions to be used without limitation in conjunction with the new Battery Pack LP-E6P. This makes it possible to shoot at the same continuous shooting speed as when using LP-E6NH. In-camera charging of LP-E6P is also supported.
  2. Adds Protect Images and Rating during [FTP transfer].
  3. Adds support for the "Peripheral Coordinated Control.” Peripheral Coordinated Control is now always performed when a compatible lens is attached (there is no need to set it on the menu screen).
    * Peripheral Coordinated Control is a function that reduces changes in distortion around the periphery of the image caused by camera shake, which tends to occur with wide-angle lenses."
  4. The following issues have been fixed
    1. Fixes an issue, in which when performing continuous shooting using the electronic shutter with both the [High-Frequency Anti-Flicker Shooting] and [OVF sim. view assist] options set to [On], Err 70 may occur.
    2. Fixes an issue, in which when Wi-Fi is disconnected, Err70 occurs.
    3. Fixes an issue, in which when performing shooting in high-speed continuous shooting + mode with the [Highlight Tone Priority] option set to [ON], focus may not be achieved when certain ISO speed settings are used.

EOS R7 Firmware Version 1.6.0

  1. Enables functions to be used without limitation in conjunction with the new Battery Pack LP-E6P. This makes it possible to shoot at the same continuous shooting speed as when using LP-E6NH. In-camera charging of LP-E6P is also supported.
  2. Adds the ability to select [WPA2] and [WPA3] as a secured protocol.
  3. Adds support for the Software Development Assistance Kit (EDSDK/CCAPI).
  4. The following issues have been fixed
    1. Fixes an issue, in which when SPEEDLITE EL-5, EL-10 is attached, the "Accessory unavailable status" message may be displayed when restarting after the camera has gone into Auto Power Off. (Only occurs with firmware Ver.1.5.0)
    2. Fixes an issue, in which when performing shooting in high-speed continuous shooting + mode with the [Highlight Tone Priority] option set to [ON], focus may not be achieved when certain ISO speed settings are used.

EOS R8 Firmware Version 1.4.0

  1. Adds the ability to select [WPA2] and [WPA3] as a secured protocol.
  2. Adds support for the Software Development Assistance Kit (EDSDK/CCAPI).
  3. The following issues have been fixed
    1. Fixes an issue, in which when performing continuous shooting using the electronic shutter with both the [High-Frequency Anti-Flicker Shooting] and [OVF sim. view assist] options set to [On], Err 70 may occur.

  1. Adds the ability to select [WPA2] and [WPA3] as a secured protocol.

RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z Firmware Version 1.0.8

  1. Canon Virtual Production System functions are supported. Lens metadata suitable for virtual production is output to a camera compatible with the Canon Virtual Production System. *1

RF 35mm F1.4 L VCM Firmware Update Version 1.0.6

  1. Canon Virtual Production System functions are supported. Lens metadata suitable for virtual production is output to a camera compatible with the Canon Virtual Production System. *1

Speedlite EL-5 Firmware Update Version 1.1.0

  1. Removes [P.Fn 04: FE memory] and adds [C.Fn 19: FE memory]. [C.Fn 19: FE memory] can now be set from [Flash C.Fn settings] on some cameras used with the Speedlite. Additionally, with some cameras, [ETTL — M] can be assigned to a camera button in [Customize buttons] on the camera to enable flash mode switching simply by pressing that button.

Speedlite ST-E10 Firmware Update Version 1.1.0

  1. Adds support for the FE memory function. Adds [C.Fn 19: FE memory]. [C.Fn 19: FE memory] can now be set from [Flash C.Fn settings] on some cameras used with the Speedlite. Additionally, with some cameras, [ETTL — M] can be assigned to a camera button in [Customize buttons] on the camera to enable flash mode switching simply by pressing that button.

PowerShot V10 Firmware Update version 1.3.0

  1. Adds [Recording:Auto power off temp] to the menu to allow selection of [Standard] or [High] for auto power off due to high card temperature.
    When [Recording: Auto power off temp] is set to [High], the available movie recording time may be extended.
    Note that the camera's internal temperature tends to rise more when the [Auto power off temp.:Standard] is set.
  2. Adds Movie/still photo switch to quickly switch between movie shooting mode and still photo shooting mode.
  3. Uploading Images to cloud service and Manual/Software URL menu options have been changed.
