Bow to the Sun

For whoever is interested, I publish music on Bandcamp. It is just so much fun to do this, and music has become a release for me: time away from my main vocation.

Every creative person needs rest, but I wither when I am not being creative. And so for me, to have a rest, I need to do something that’s a different kind of creativity from the one I spend most of my time doing.

I often feel those pauses in my photography, or the times when I don’t feel like doing anything, are times to go do something else. And by doing that something else, it allows me to ‘come back to photography’ recharged, or ready for a new chapter in what I do.

As with all relationships, we all need time away, and we also get something out of the reuniting that happens when we come back to the relationship. Whether it’s with a significant other, or your relationship with your photography.

I can’t claim to be any serious musician. But I have for some unknown reason to me, been more drawn to music than the other art forms I’ve played around with in my 54 years of being on planet Earth. Music was my complete obsession from the age of 12 till around 34. I have had a 20 year sabbatical from it (I’m 54 now), and I’m really surprised, and delighted to find that I felt interested enough to start working on music again.

My life has just gotten richer as a result. To have one creative channel is a blessing for all of us, and now I have two. Music and photography for me, are all part of sensory-stimulation. I think we all want to feel as alive as we possibly can, and the creative arts is one of the best ways to do that.
